ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILLS

ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INTRAPRENEURSHIP: DOING BUSINESS AND TRANSFORMING BUSINESS

Prof. Marco Vivarelli

Prof. Benedetto Cannatelli

Prof. Marco Grazzi

The course aims to be an opportunity for openness and reflection on the possible impact of one's research and the skills developed during the PhD programme beyond traditional academic boundaries. The development of an innovation-oriented attitude, the practice of interacting with colleagues from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds, and openness to exploring new tools are all elements that contribute to the so-called “intrapreneurship”, understood as the ability to bring an entrepreneurial spirit to one's work situation. While the development of this entrepreneurial attitude is common to all PhD programmes, in some disciplinary areas - typically those closer to STEM and economics subjects - this proactive attitude can more easily lead to the creation of new businesses, thus materialising into “entrepreneurship”.

The course, divided into five meetings, offers both a theoretical overview of the phenomena of intra- and entrepreneurship and an examination of some concrete initiatives that exemplify the realisation of the entrepreneurial spirit.

The first session introduces the topic and outlines its theoretical context. The second meeting offers some basic tools for evaluating the transition ‘from idea to business’ and illustrates some fundamental criteria for drafting a business plan. The third session introduces some specific elements of entrepreneurial initiatives that have emerged in the academic context and discusses a few cases, drawing on the specific experiences of the participants. The fourth meeting features a testimonial on intrapreneurship or entrepreneurship, and the fifth meeting concludes by presenting the opportunities available at the University (from ConLab to the technology transfer offices).
