The UNESCO Chair in Education for Human Development and Solidarity Among Peoples provides the education to university students who intend to engage in international cooperation projects with the following objectives:
- enabling the acquisition of knowledge and skills for the practical implementation of international cooperation activities;
- performing a critical analysis of the degree of recognition and effectiveness of human rights in national, regional and international contexts;
- learning the strategies of institutional support which is both a pedagogy of the subject and a pedagogy of institutions and combines the principles of subsidiarity and solidarity;
- examining the different forms of international cooperation implemented by international organisations, governments and civil society with particular reference to the role of NGOs.
The cultural proposal of the Summer School intends to recall the fundamentals of the pedagogy of international cooperation in order to promote a community which is capable of sustaining personal and social identity in different contexts.
The attempt of the Summer School is to promote a shift from a needs-centred approach to international cooperation, whose goal is to reduce shortages through the transfer of resources, to a rights-centred approach that enhances people's capacities and freedoms. The following are the objectives that the Summer School aims to pursue:
Understand the context and the different forms of international cooperation implemented by International Organisations, with particular reference to the role of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs);
Carry out a critical analysis of the degree of recognition and effectiveness of human rights in national, regional and international contexts;
learn about international cooperation strategies and policies in order to reflect on the pedagogical paradigm implemented for the promotion and integral development of people;
acquire skills and tools useful for the implementation of international cooperation activities.
